They took everything from him. Now he'll make them pay, no matter the cost.

Sep's family is dead, slaughtered by forces he cannot yet comprehend. Consumed by grief and burning with the need for vengeance, he embarks on a blood-soaked path to hunt down those responsible. But in a world plagued by The Beckoning, an insidious corruption that transforms desire into unholy obsession, even righteous fury becomes a gateway to damnation.

The deeper Sep walks into darkness, the more he becomes what he hunts.

As The Beckoning takes hold, Sep's quest for justice warps into something far more sinister. Each step toward vengeance grants him terrifying power, but strips away his humanity piece by piece. Ancient runes promise the strength to destroy his enemies, yet they bind him to a fate that could unleash devastation upon the entire world. Allies become enemies. Truth becomes lies. And the line between hero and monster blurs with each life he takes.

One man's vengeance. Humanity's last hope, or ultimate nightmare.

Sep stands at the precipice of transformation, caught between the man he was and the creature he's becoming. Will he master the darkness within and become the savior humanity desperately needs? Or will The Beckoning complete its corruption, turning him into the very evil he swore to destroy? In this gripping dark fantasy where vengeance and destiny collide, the fate of all existence rests on the choices of one broken, obsessed man who may already be too far gone to save.

Excellent action oriented fantasy novel

I was honestly surprised with this book. Having met the author at a Comic Con I didn't know what to expect. Turns out this book has high stakes in a dark fantasy realm. The action is fast paced and reminded me of Forgotten Realms books I've read before.
I look forward to meeting the author again and buying the next book from him at that time.

Great start! I loved it. A really good story very well told. I can't wait for the next one. What a cliff-hanger ending.

Awaiting the next book with eager anticipation

Every so often, an author and a book come along that make me regret the speed at which I read, and I am happy to say that this book has caused me to wish that the author lives a long life and never suffers from a power outage that would delay his next book by even 5 minutes.

Written in an intelligent manner, and with no lack of imagination, The Rune Than Binds, had me returning to it's pages, perhaps a little more than I should have ( if I was to get a good nights sleep ), but in the end was well worth the extra time spent, to get to the somewhat surprising last chapter.

As the title to the review says, I am eagerly waiting the next book, all the while regretting that the author can not produce the next book, in the 24hrs that I spent reading his first.

To the author, JD Goff:

Congratulations on a job well done, and know that I can not wait to get my hands on a hard copy, to add to my personal collection when it comes out.

Amazingly Written

Just what I was looking for in this fast-paced story that doesn't jump around much instead, choosing to follow a strong, male protagonist consumed by revenge in this coming-of-age tale.

The book reminded me a lot of the Warded Man, though it definitely holds its own in the fantasy genre. Fantastic fight scenes, excellent world-building, fully flushed-out characters, engaging plot, and gritty realism, this is really a gem for the price. It's only too bad I finished it in a day and will have to wait ~6 months or so for the next one...

One note to make, those expecting to see even a spark of romance, a crush, a heroine/love-interest, anything along those lines will be disappointed save for maybe the first chapter. Just a fair warning since the first chapter is a tad misleading in that sense (This isn't the book to read if that's what you're looking for); I hadn't realized how standard such characters were in most scifi/fantasy novels of similar themes until I read this book and found it lacking.

One of the best fantasy books of the year

It takes quite awhile to appreciate this book. The suspense and admiration grows slowly as one reads. The first few chapters can be confusing and might erroneously cause one to believe it is just another addition in an overcrowded genre.
However, like the warding man and to a certain extend, the prince of nothing...this novel just gets more compelling with every page. I think at the end, I had a mental scream of anguish that the next novel in the series wasn't already available.

I predict this novel will eventually be priced at 9.99 and the author is going to have an amazing challenge coming up with a sequel worthy of the original.

Overall, a rare find...I try to give only a few 5 star reviews a year, and this novel easily falls in that category. I'll remember it for awhile.
